Caring Dad

Hi, I’m John.

Just over three years ago my life was thrown upside down when my daughter was born with chronic illness. I went from having a career to becoming a carer. I’ve had to ‘train’ to be an amateur GP, nurse, dietician, cardiologist, gastroenterologist, physio, ophthalmologist, audiologist…

I’ve carried my daughters listless body into accident and emergency many times. She’s been whisked away in ambulances, I’ve kissed her goodbye as shes been trollied into theatre and we’ve come incredibly close to losing her on multiple occasions. There have been many tears but there has also been unbelievable laughter.

I’ve created this site for all the dads out there like me, who are struggling to hold things together, who are juggling work, relationships and caring. Who feel like they are perpetually treading water and occasionally drowning. You are not alone!

This blog will document my journey as I try to make sense of it all.

I hope you will join me.
